C aroline writhed in agony, gripping the bedding with her hands. She was aware her friends were around her, but all she could focus on was the pain.

“Do something!” Aldrick demanded at Tilda.

“I can’t! She just has to see it through. There’s nothing we can do now that she’s unlocked the key.” Tilda explained, reaching out and placing her hand on Caroline’s shoulder, “Just hold on, it will be over soon. Just don’t fight against it, you’ll only make it harder on yourself.”

“Is this normal?” Nadine asked, her eyes wide as she watched on helplessly.

“The first time is the worst because the body’s never undergone the morph before. It’s uncontrolled and primal. We just have to give her some space and try and keep her as comfortable as possible.”

“How are we supposed to do that?” Corbin asked, his voice almost a screech.

“Just be here for her,” Tilda advised.
